Wellness Activity Center

Project Overview

Developed for the Coalition of Community College Architecture Programs’ 2025 Student Design Competition, this project responds to the need for enhanced healthcare access in underserved areas. The Wellness Activity Center bridges gaps in preventive care and community resources by offering multipurpose spaces for education, counseling, and physical wellness — all within an inviting, accessible environment tailored to rural populations.

Design Approach

My design strategy focused on accessibility, flexibility, and comfort. Spaces were organized to create intuitive circulation between active zones and quiet support areas, ensuring users can move through the facility with ease. A welcoming, community-forward layout encourages first-time visitors to explore offerings, while durable materials and strategic zoning support long-term operational needs.

Climate considerations for Maine’s Zone 6A informed building orientation and envelope decisions. Solar access studies guided window placement to improve daylight and energy performance, while outdoor recreation and mobile clinic accommodations ensure year-round usability.
